How to Download Custom Colors for Clone Hero

Add community color profiles to Clone Hero without mixing them with highway images or song files, then rescan and test fret, note, flame and Star Power visibility.

Quick answer

Install profiles in Custom/Colors

Download and extract the color profile, open Clone Hero's current Custom folder, copy the profile into Colors, then use the custom-content rescan control in Settings → Gameplay. Select the new profile and test it in a song.

Do not place a color profile in Songs, Highways or beside the game executable unless that location is the active portable Custom folder confirmed by your installation.

What Clone Hero color profiles change

Color profiles can change gameplay elements such as fret colors, notes, flames, Star Power and other supported visual effects. They do not change chart timing, audio or note placement. A profile is a visual preference layer, not a different song version.

Choose a profile for readability before novelty. Five distinct fret colors are easy to recognize for many players, while monochrome or low-contrast themes may require adjustment. Test sustained notes, open notes, Star Power and rapid patterns because a menu preview cannot show every gameplay state.

Color perception and display conditions vary. A profile that works on a bright monitor may become hard to read on a television or dim laptop. Keep the default profile available so you can switch back during troubleshooting.

Install a Clone Hero color profile

  1. 1

    Preview the profile

Use a community post with real screenshots or video and confirm which game version the creator tested.

  2. 2

    Download the profile file

A color profile is a small custom-content file or archive. It should not require a standalone EXE installer.

  3. 3

    Extract the archive

If the download is compressed, extract it until the actual profile file is visible.

  4. 4

    Open the active Custom folder

Use in-game controls or official installation guidance to locate the Custom folder for the installation you are running.

  5. 5

    Copy it into Colors

Place the profile in Custom/Colors. Keep highway images in their own Highways or Video Highways folders.

  6. 6

    Rescan and select

Run Scan Custom Images/Rescan Custom Content in Settings → Gameplay, choose the profile, and test it during a song.

Why custom colors do not appear

Correct the folder and rescan before reinstalling the game. If several custom assets disappeared at the same time, verify the active Custom folder. If only one profile fails, replace that file from its original source.

For highway-specific issues, follow the custom highways guide. For broader scan or launch failures, use Clone Hero troubleshooting.

  • The archive is still compressed.
  • The profile is in the wrong Custom subfolder.
  • The game is using a different Custom folder after an install-mode change.
  • Custom content was not rescanned.
  • The profile file is incomplete, renamed incorrectly or built for an incompatible version.
  • A different profile remains selected in the active player profile.
  • The creator packaged several alternatives and the wrong wrapper folder was copied.

Download community color profiles safely

Prefer posts that show the profile in actual gameplay, credit the creator and identify the game version. Keep a copy of the original file and source link. If a community attachment disappears later, you still know what is installed and can restore it after migration.

A simple color profile should not install unrelated applications, request browser extensions or ask for administrator access. Extract normal archives with a trusted utility and inspect the contents before copying them into Custom.

Do not present a community profile as an official Clone Hero theme unless it was published by the project. This site treats custom profiles as user-created content and links to the official manual for folder and rescan behavior.

Test custom colors for Clone Hero in real gameplay

Evaluate custom colors for Clone Hero with a repeatable test chart rather than relying on the menu preview. Choose a song that includes single notes, chords, sustains, open notes and Star Power, then play the same section with the default profile and the new profile. Compare recognition speed, not only appearance. If two adjacent frets become difficult to separate during fast passages, revise or replace the profile.

Test the profile against every highway you use regularly. A bright highway can reduce contrast around pastel notes, while a dark highway can hide low-luminance outlines or flames. Keep at least one neutral highway and default color profile as a baseline. Changing one visual layer at a time makes it clear whether the colors, highway or display settings caused the problem.

Check custom colors for Clone Hero on the actual display used for play. Televisions, monitors and laptop panels can render saturation, black levels and motion differently. Disable temporary blue-light filters or HDR changes during comparison, then restore your normal settings and verify the profile again. Stream capture and local gameplay may also need different contrast choices.

Players with color-vision differences should prioritize distinguishable brightness, shape and position cues rather than a profile marketed only by color names. Ask the intended player to test the design directly. A creator screenshot cannot reproduce every display, visual condition or individual perception.

After choosing a profile, record its source and keep the downloaded archive outside the live Custom folder. Back up the working profile before editing values. Use clear filenames for alternatives, rescan after changes and remove retired copies so the selection menu does not fill with nearly identical names.

Move color profiles between Clone Hero installs

  1. 1

Back up the working Colors folder

Close the game and copy profiles plus a note of the active selection.

  2. 2

Open the new active Custom folder

Use the updated game rather than assuming the previous install path is still active.

  3. 3

    Restore a small test group

Copy a few profiles, rescan custom content and confirm they appear before restoring everything.

  4. 4

    Test the selected profile

Play a known chart with the normal highway and verify notes, flames and Star Power.

Common questions

Clone Hero custom colors FAQ

Where do Clone Hero color profiles go?

Place them in the Colors subfolder inside the active Clone Hero Custom folder, then rescan custom content.

Do custom colors change song charts?

No. They change supported visual colors and effects, not chart timing, notes or audio.

Why is my color profile missing?

Extract the archive, verify Custom/Colors, confirm the active installation's folder, rescan and select the profile for the current player.

Can I use custom colors with custom highways?

Yes. Test the combination because background contrast can make otherwise clear note colors difficult to read.

Are custom colors included in Clone Hero?

The game has default color behavior. Additional community profiles are separate custom-content downloads.

Can a custom profile be unsafe?

Use established community sources and inspect archives. A profile should not need an unknown executable, browser extension or unrelated installer.
